Community Action for Healthy Homes

Community Action for Healthy Homes is a program of the Brownsville Partnership, focused on improving community health through a rapid survey-fix process that identifies and makes small repairs with the most impact on residential health and safety to tenants and low-income homeowners at no cost to the tenants and homeowners. The survey is conducted by a trained team of local residents, and based on an award-winning model with a track record of positive impact.

The Team

Survey Team

The Survey Team are local residents of Brownsville who have been hired and trained to identify the fixes within the apartment that will improve residents’ health. On the day of your scheduled survey appointment, 3-4 members of the team will be present to identify open issues. The team will conduct immediate small fixes on the spot and any larger issues will be passed on to be completed by local contractors.

  1. Question: How much will this program cost me? The program is free of charge for participants.

  2. Question: Will you repair everything that needs to be fixed in my home? There are certain repairs, linked to Healthy Living Principles, these are the repairs that will be prioritized.

  3. Question: I only want you to repair certain items, can I tell you what I want to be fixed? You will have an opportunity to share with the survey team observations you’ve made related to items that need to be repaired. The final determination will be based on the health survey and Healthy Living Principles that our program is modeled after.

  4. Question: How long will it take to find out what repairs will be completed in my home? Immediately, there are some repairs that will be completed while the survey team is in your home. Other more labor-intensive repairs will be completed by tradespeople and those repairs will be communicated to you before the tradespeople schedule your appointment.

  5. Question: Who will be completing the repairs? The survey team and different tradespeople depend on the need of your home.

  6. Question: Are you maintaining the repairs after the program is completed? No, Brownsville Partnership will not maintain your repairs after SF2.
